Citymapper, the popular free public transit app and mapping service, has announced the launch of their new travel card concept: Citymapper Pass.
Citymapper first opened in London, and has ambitiously chosen their home city to introduce Citymapper Pass, a new contactless payment card that will combine buses, trains, trams, Santander bikes and Citymapper’s Ride service as part of a weekly subscription. The idea behind a subscription is that it packages everything for the user and reduces hassle, making it easier for people to navigate without dwelling about the details of their trip.
Citymapper aims to develop a more thorough and tailored experience for regular commuters: all transport integrated in one place, personalized, with a comprehensive app they can use every day. They understand that users want to get from A to B, and empowers them to choose a route for different reasons (speed, cost, simplicity, familiarity).
Citymapper Pass will launch in March/April 2019, and will cover public transport, cycles (Santander’s docked scheme) and cabs (their Citymapper Ride service). It will combine with Apple Pay and Google Pay so users have the option of using them as virtual cards as well. Over time they intend to add other modes and partners such as alternative cycle and cab services, car sharing, scooters and any future modes of micro-mobility.
